Log Cabin Sizes
A log cabin is a serious garden building, used as a home office, gym, studio or guest space, so getting the size right matters more than with a shed. Below you will find every log cabin size we compare, from compact 10′ x 7′ cabins to 26′ x 16′ multi-room buildings, with links to compare prices from leading UK retailers.
Log cabins are usually made in metric sizes, so the feet sizes below are rounded. A Palmako 4m x 3m cabin, for example, appears as 13′ x 10′. Always check the external dimensions, wall thickness and any canopy or veranda on the product page before you plan the base.

How to choose the right log cabin size
Start with how you will use it
A home office needs room for a desk, chair and storage, so allow at least 10′ x 10′. A gym or studio needs open floor space, and a guest room or games room usually means 16′ wide or more.
Choose the wall thickness
Log cabin walls range from around 28mm to 70mm and beyond. Thicker logs are stronger, more stable and hold their temperature far better, which matters if you will use the cabin every day or through winter.
Pent or apex roof
Pent roofs give a modern look and keep the height down, which helps near a boundary. Apex roofs give more headroom and a traditional cabin style. Check the ridge height on each product page.
Check planning and the base
Large cabins often need a concrete base and may need planning permission, especially if used as living accommodation or placed near a boundary. Building regulations can also apply above 15 square metres of floor area, so check before you order.
Log Cabin size FAQs
What size log cabin do I need for a home office?
A 10′ x 10′ log cabin, about 3m square, is a comfortable minimum for one person with a desk and storage. If you want a meeting space or a separate storage room, look at 13′ x 10′ and larger.
How thick should log cabin walls be?
For occasional use, 28mm to 34mm walls are fine. For a home office or year round use, 44mm or thicker gives a much warmer, more stable building.
Do I need planning permission for a log cabin?
Many log cabins fall under permitted development, but the 2.5m height limit near boundaries, the rule that outbuildings cannot cover more than half the garden, and restrictions on living accommodation all apply. Check with your council for larger cabins.
What base does a log cabin need?
Most log cabins need a concrete slab or a solid paving base that is perfectly level, because the interlocking logs rely on a flat base to sit square. Check the base size on the product page.
